Southern France and Seville
Lyon & Marseille, 07/01 - 07/03
I had a connecting bus in Lyon to Marseille, so I just walked around the city of Lyon for a couple hours. It was so hot, like ridiculously unbearable. I refused to pay for a luggage locker, so I carried around my 30 pounds backpack for the entire day lol.
The only reason why I was heading to Marseille was to catch a cheap flight to Seville in order to meet up with Carolyn and Anna in southern Spain. I couchsurfed with an Italian girl for 2 days and explored the city by myself. I literally met her for 5 minutes and then she slept at her boyfriend’s house for my entire stay lol. I had her entire apartment to myself for free :)
Marseille is a coastal city on the Mediterranean Sea with fucking great seafood, beaches, and architecture!!! I walked around the city for a bit, checked out some cool buildings, and went thrifting. Le Corbusier’s famous Unite d’ Habitation was on the outskirts of the city, so I took a bus and explored. It was so cool learning about the building in school and then experiencing it in real life. Afterwards, I headed to a beach and laid out for the afternoon.
My backpack almost got pickpocketed and I literally turned around to the guy and screamed at him. Like get out lmao. I grabbed a pizza and watched the sunset in the Old Port of Marseille.
Seville, 07/03 - 07/07
The next morning I took a flight from Marseille to Seville. I had no where I was staying in Seville because no one on couchsurfing was answering me, so when I landed I headed to the hostel I was staying at with Carolyn and Anna for the next couple of days. I just asked if I can have check-in a day early, and luckily they had a bed:) Oasis Backpackers’ Palace Sevilla was literally one of the cheapest and marvelous hostels I’ve ever stayed in. IT HAD A ROOF TOP POOL AND BAR. Like what the heck, and it was super cheap!!! Our 16 person room even had a cute balcony.
I unpacked and headed to a tapas restaurant (tapas is a Spanish tradition of serving food, it’s kinda just a bunch of small appetizers that you share with everyone at the table.) Of course I had to get a sangria too. I walked around for a bit and then met up with someone from couchsurfing. We smoked and drank in a park until 4am. We were invited to a German girls apartment party that was literally named “Destroy my Apartment.” We ended up not going, but it was funny.
Happy 4th if July!!! The next morning Carolyn and Anna arrived :) The entire day we just sat on the rooftop and just talked for hours. We got BLASTED that night with a couple people at our hostel at a cute bar.
So weed is sorta legal in major cities in Spain. It’s kinda a weird situation. There’s this loophole in the laws that allows the distribution of weed to be perfectly legal inside the shops (there were no windows and I needed to buy a €20 membership in order to be let into the shop) Everything was very strict. I had to ring a doorbell and a girl popped her head out of a sliding window and then I had to show my passport and sign a couple documents. It was around €8 for a gram.
Afterwards, we walked around the Plaza de España, Parque de María Luísa, and then grabbed a Mexican dinner.
The next morning, we headed to a couple churches and then had tapas and sangria for lunch. We watched the sunset at Setas de Sevilla, a waffle-like structure that I’ve been wanted to see forever.
Our last day of Spain consisted of visiting the Palace Gardens. We caught a bus to Faro, Portugal that night.
